Polly welcomes the boy with a hello and asks his name. Rubbing his wet face with dirty hands, thus explaining his grubby appearance. Since no children had ever been in that house before, Polly is curious. One day, while she is in her garden, a grubby faced young boy pokes his head over the wall from the garden next door. During this time in London lived a young girl named Polly Plummer A famous detective still lived at Baker Street and the schools were less pleasant than today's schools. The Magician's Nephew begins with a brief summary of the time period during which the story occurs. ![]()
